Robin Ashby MA(rca) established ra design from his Derbyshire base after working in many aspects of jewellery design, new product development and manufacture for several companies including large brand names such as Wedgwood. He has also taught in colleges and universities up to BA level.

MA Jewellery Royal College of Art London 1990/92.

BA Jewellery and Silversmithing Loughborough University 1987/90.

Robin has been using computer aided design for over ten years, in jewellery technology terms this makes him practically a veteran! During this time, he has modelled literally thousands of jewellery designs from complex multi part necklaces down to single stone settings.

As well as design and CAD skills, Robin has a wide range of hands-on, practical experience. During time spent as a university jewellery technician, he honed his skills with casting, mould making/cutting, enamelling, hand engraving, stone setting, machining, polishing, soldering and general bench skills. His industry experience includes working as a CAD modeller for domino/weston beamor, producing mounts for their collections and handbook.

Practical experience in jewellery production processes means that when ra design produces CAD models, all post processes down the line are taken into account such as casting, finishing and stone setting. If required, we are happy to advise customers on any practical problems that may occur during product development and manufacture, and will suggest relevant solutions to ensure the best possible product outcome.

Process lead technology and software is now our greatest focus and interest in the fast moving and developing jewellery industry.
