Once a virtual CAD model has been generated on screen and approved by the customer it is then transformed into reality.
This is done on a rapid prototyping machine called a Viper. The computer file is sliced it into very thin layers, once sliced the model is generated in plastic. A laser cures a liquid bath of resin layer by layer.
The process requires a very fine scaffolding, positioned at strategic points to support the body of the piece during the curing process. The first image shows the built platform with supports after it has drained from the resin bath and before the excess liquid resin and supports are rinsed away. Other images show examples that have been rinsed and cured ready for moulding.
Prototypes can be sent to the customer for approval.
